Appearance
Soichiro is a tall young man with very narrow eyes and thin eyebrows, traits common among the Hoshina family. His long white hair, fading into purple, is styled in a braid with two strands left loose at the front. In battle, he wears the standard Defense Force combat suit, while in his youth he trained wearing a traditional swordsman’s robe.
Personality
Soichiro appears to be a courageous and quick-thinking individual. As a child, he was very confident in his abilities and would often mock his younger brother, Soshiro, during sparring sessions. This behavior stemmed not from malice but from intimidation by Soshiro’s potential. Though their relationship has since become distant, Soichiro has outgrown his fear and openly acknowledges that Soshiro is the greatest swordsman in their clan’s history. He also secretly admires his brother but hesitates to reconnect fully due to lingering guilt over his childhood behavior.
Plot
Cataclysms Arc
Soichiro, leading the Sixth Division, mobilized to respond when Himeji City came under attack by multiple kaiju.
The Second Wave Arc
After learning of Vice-Captain Soshiro’s victory over Kaiju No. 12, Soichiro told a subordinate that he had always known his brother would not lose, recognizing Soshiro as a prodigious swordsman surpassing anyone in their clan’s history. He refrained from congratulating him over the radio, still feeling guilty over the childhood teasing that had strained their relationship. Soichiro admitted that he had intentionally taunted Soshiro to discourage him, though it had the opposite effect. Soon after, the Sixth Division received a report of a Daikaiju signature, and Soichiro led his men to engage the threat.
Trivia
Soichiro is five years older than Soshiro and has a liking for okonomiyaki, mont blanc, afternoon naps, and victory. His sword is inspired by Kojiro Sasaki's 'Laundry-Drying Pole' and is even longer than Soshiro's custom-made katana. Originally designed with black hair, Soichiro was given white hair instead to emphasize his genius. He ranked #7 in the second character popularity poll.
