Appearance
Mina Ashiro is a beautiful young woman with waist-length black hair, typically styled in a ponytail and adorned with a barrette. She has large dark-orange eyes with a mole beneath each and an athletic physique. She bears a small scar on the left side of her upper chest, usually hidden beneath her uniform. At age 18, her hair was shorter and cut into a bob. Mina typically wears the Defense Force combat suit, accompanied by a white visor that enhances her vision, and in battle she is known to wield firearms as well as her personal cannon.
Personality
Mina Ashiro is a serious and determined woman who takes her role in the Defense Force with utmost dedication, striving to uphold a childhood promise to defeat every kaiju. Despite her professional demeanor, she maintains a soft spot for her childhood friend Kafka Hibino, fondly remembering their friendship and wishing him success in the Defense Force, even after discovering he is Kaiju No. 8. Beneath her tough exterior, Mina is caring, prioritizing the safety of others in battle, showing gratitude to her subordinates, and recognizing their contributions. However, her strong sense of responsibility also fuels a deep-seated fear of failure, as she believes any mistake could dishonor the sacrifices of her comrades or betray civilian trust—an anxiety that simultaneously drives her effectiveness in combat. Outside of work, she is notoriously inept at cooking, unable to safely use knives, and often prepares whole vegetables for dishes such as curry without dicing them.

Mina Ashiro, captain of the Defense Force’s Third Division, is recognized as the strongest female captain in the organization, having neutralized hundreds of kaiju throughout her career. She possesses the power to effortlessly overpower giant-sized kaiju with only a few shots, and according to Director General Keiji Itami, she is stronger than Gen Narumi against giant kaiju and uniquely proficient in handling large-scale weaponry. Itami even suggested that, had Mina been active during the battle against Kaiju No. 6 ten years ago, the resulting damage could have been reduced to less than a third. Mina’s extraordinary strength was evident from her first mission with the Third Division, leading Director General Isao Shinomiya to call her “the missing link” who could transform kaiju neutralization. Even adversaries, such as Kaiju No. 9, recognize and admire her power, wishing to absorb it to grow stronger.

Enhanced Speed and Reflexes: Mina is exceptionally swift and agile, moving gracefully across the battlefield while dodging multiple attacks from an empowered Kaiju No. 9.

Master Marksman: Mina is a marksman of the highest caliber, earning the title 'The Defense Force's Strongest Supergiant-Class Killer' due to her extraordinary marksmanship and mastery of her personal cannon. Her shots carry tremendous power, allowing her to easily defeat large kaiju. She can also use her tiger, Bakko, to stabilize her, enhancing her accuracy to target specific parts of a kaiju’s body. Mina’s skill as a marksman surpasses even that of Gen Narumi, who is known as 'Japan's Strongest Anti-Kaiju Combatant.'
Leadership Skills: As the captain of the Third Division, Mina has demonstrated excellent leadership abilities, guiding her team effectively in high-pressure combat situations.
Trivia
Mina Ashiro enjoys sweet foods and baths, and has had a fondness for dried cuttlefish since childhood. She is particularly fond of cats and all types of felines; during elementary school, she served as an animal caretaker and now owns a gray tiger named Bakko, which accompanies her in battle against kaiju. According to Naoya Matsumoto, the Defense Force combat suit was originally designed to suit Mina. In popularity polls, she ranked seventh in the first and sixth in the second.
