Appearance
Kota Tachibana has a lean, wiry build and striking features, including large, browless eyes and a horizontal scar running across his right forehead. His long black hair is thick and unruly, pulled back into a small ponytail with shaved sides and a lighter streak running through the middle. Both ears are pierced twice, each adorned with circular earrings. Earlier in his career, his hair was completely black. On missions, he wears the Defense Force’s standard combat suit.
Personality
Tachibana is generally a serious and focused individual, though he is frequently caught off guard during battles and can become easily irritated. He maintains a close relationship with fellow First Division Platoon Leader Rin Shinonome. Additionally, he appears to have a rivalry with Third Division Platoon Leader Ryo Ikaruga.
Plot
Kaiju Weapon Arc
Tachibana joined the First Division in responding to the emergence of Ant-type kaiju in Shinagawa. Following the mission, he attended the funeral of Director General Isao Shinomiya.
Cataclysms Arc
During the cataclysms caused by the new No. 9, Tachibana and the First Division were deployed to respond. His platoon was sent to Oizumi, where they confronted six Supergiant-class kaiju. During the operation, Tachibana and Rin Shinonome witnessed Third Division Captain Mina Ashiro eliminate two Daikaiju from Tachikawa using her newly acquired Anti-Giant-Class Kaiju Rail Gun.
The Second Wave Arc
Following the appearance of Kaiju No. 13 in Oizumi, Tachibana and Rin Shinonome engaged the creature. By the end of the battle, Rin was left powerless as No. 13 overwhelmed much of the First Division’s main force and seized Tachibana by the throat, fracturing his lower mandible and C2 vertebra. Rin retaliated by firing at the kaiju, allowing Tachibana to break free from its grip, though their efforts ultimately proved ineffective.
Power & Abilities
As a Platoon Leader in the First Division of the Defense Force, Tachibana is a highly capable and skilled soldier, commanding lower-ranking officers and possessing the strength to confront formidable kaiju. His captain, Gen Narumi, has noted that Tachibana’s abilities are strong enough to warrant a future promotion to Captain.
Trivia
Like other Platoon Leaders in the First Division, Tachibana dyed his hair as a sign of respect for Captain Gen Narumi’s strength.
